The Martian by Andy Weir is a 369 page novel about an astronaut who gets left behind on Mars while going on his mission with his other 5 crewmates. This astronaut, Mark Watney, has to find out a way to live on this barren and desolate planet.Though inappropriate at times, humorous jokes weave into the story and makes you want to keep on reading all night.
This exciting book is the #1 New York Times bestseller. It has been translated into about 30 languages and reaches people from all ages. The Martian really showed us humans to try hard and never give up.
On Thursday, I went to Stanford to go listen to the author (Andy Weir) talk about the history of his book, answer questions, and sign books. Andy Weir, like Mark Watney (the protagonist), is very humorous and inappropriate especially when he stuck out his middle finger. A very witty man, he grew up in Davis, California and has a huge passion for science. I asked Mr.Weir a question about what the next mission would be for NASA after the Mars mission. He replied that it would probably be a settlement on the moon.
The Martian has also become a movie (now on DVD). It was released on 10/2/15 and has brought huge crowds to theaters.
