Hygge-the Danish ritual to relax

By now, you probably have heard of hygge (pronounced hue-gah). Coming from the Norwegian word “well-being”, hygge is a common Danish ritual and a way of life to take the time to unwind and slowing down. In a nutshell, hygge means creating a warm and joyful atmosphere and creating time to enjoy time with friends and family.


History of Hygge

Danish people created hygge to survive the cold, dark days during the long winters. Anything from lighting up a candle to creating a homemade hearty meal for people you love, hygge is a wonderful way for to light up someone’s spirits.

Tips on creating a hygge atmosphere

1.Lighting Candles – turn off the lights and light up some scented candles!

2.Don’t rush – take your time and unplug from smartphones and computers.

3.Open up and tell stories to each other
