Matcha-the drink everyone should be loving

Matcha has a long history in Japan. It isn’t just a drink but it is also an art. Every summer in Japan, my aunt would whisk the 茶筅 (cha-sen), a bamboo whisk, with a special matcha powder and hot water. Besides its ritual, matcha is also a great beauty and health resource. These are the reasons you should be drinking matcha.

1. It helps boost metabolism and burn fat

Studies show that that drinking matcha can help burn more calories from up to 35-43% of daily calorie expenditure. Another study showed that exercising immediately after drinking matcha resulted in 25% of fat burn. With a healthy diet and exercise plan, matcha green tea can be a great addition to your daily routine.

2. It gives you glowing skin

1 cup of matcha green tea has 137 times more antioxidants than a regularly-brewed cup of green tea. These antioxidants can get rid of harmful radicals in your body. They can also give a rush of blood flow, which can give a natural glow to your body.

3. It might help you live longer

People in Okinawa, Japan are known for their longevity. Recently, this longevity has been attributed to their regular consumption of matcha green tea. Matcha green tea has also been known to combat aging skin and inflammation.

There are only benefits out of drinking pure matcha. However, matcha can be bitter and may not be to your liking. Personally, I love matcha anything-matcha lattes, matcha cakes, matcha ice cream, matcha pudding. However, these can be full of loads of unhealthy added sugars. Making healthier versions of the sweet treats can give great flavor and nutritional benefits.
