Sprinkles. They come in different colors, shapes, and sizes. Usually, they don’t have any taste. What is really in them?
Sprinkles are made of sugar, corn syrup, corn starch, wax, cocoa powder (that’s where the chocolate taste is from), and artificial colors. They are basically strands of sugar. The definition of unhealthy. But since they are so small, it’s fine to indulge once in a while! Funfetti in birthday cakes, ice creams, donuts, and even cream cheese is great for a pop of color.
How are they made?
After the ingredients are mixed, the sprinkles are made into a doughy paste and pushed through small holes into very thin strands. Then the thin strands fall onto a conveyer belt which breaks the sprinkle dough up into various sizes making the actual sprinkles.
